Notes from July 16, 2003 Meeting
On July 16, 2003, 19 members of Pointers in Person Chicago Chapter 1 began their quarterly meeting at 7:00 pm at the Suparossa Ristorante
Italiano in Woodridge Illinois. The meeting was scheduled to be a
question and answer session, chaired by Alex DeVolpi.
After a wonderful family style Italian dinner, Alex started the meeting by discussing genealogy software. He discussed the latest version of
Family Tree Maker and concentrated on the features found in the newest
version. Several of the members present used FTM. Deanna Spingola then discussed the many features of Roots Magic, a fairly new program.
Jerry Farenga asked for help in organizing all of the paper data that accumulates during year’s of genealogy research. This led to a lively
discussion of the various methods used by several of the members.
Debbie Peters said that she keeps all of her paperwork in the same order as her family tree, oldest member first; Gil Sacco files his documents by the number assigned to each family member. The important message that came through is that documents should be coded or
filed in a way that can be easily understood and found quickly. Deanna Spignola mentioned that a class is offered at the Naperville, Illinois
Family History Center concerning this very topic.
Patti Tolone discussed her participation in the meeting of the Piemonte Regional group at the Italian Cultural Center in Stone Park, Illinois.
She also mentioned that the National Archives and Records Administration
has published a new version of the Guide to Genealogical Research in the National Archives. It is currently available and sells for $39.00.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 15, 2003.
