KYOWVA Genealogical and Historical Society
We are now in our new home located in the Second Presbyterian Church Building, 901 Jefferson Avenue in Huntington, West Virginia. Our spacious Library and Research Rooms are now located with rest room facilities nearby on the same floor. We now have wireless Internet access for those with laptops. Ample parking is available along West 9th Street as well as along the Jefferson Avenue side of the building. Entry to the Library is through the double doors nearest the alley corner on West 9th Street.

Jim Ashworth installed three new bookcases in our library to house our growing book collection. All of our Family Files are now organized and cataloged along with the location and subject files. Planning continues for a possible two-night trip to the large research library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The dates will be July 22nd, 23rd, and return home on July 24th. Contact us if you are interested going. Watch for details.
Former president Sherri Pettit fell in January and broke her left wrist. She had surgery in February, then fell again in February and broke her right knee. As of early March, she is still in the hospital recovering from the falls and further complications of a diabetic condition that is affecting her kidneys.
We are looking for more volunteers to help staff our library. if you can help at least one day a month, call Anne Shuff at (304) 525-4367 during regular library hours to arrange a meeting with her, learn the ropes and get on the schedule.

The Cabell County Library Genealogy Room has indexed obituaries from the Huntington-Herald Dispatch for the years 1930 through the 1960's and 2001 through 2007. Copies can be ordered. See the Cabell County Public Library website for details. Get there from our Links Page.
The next scheduled event is our regular monthly meeting on May 20th at 7:00 pm in the KYOWVA Library room. Don Clark will speak on "Searching Ohio Records". A business meeting will follow after a short break. Everyone is welcome!
KYOWVA will be 30 years old this year. In celebration of our 30th year, we would like to modernize our logo. We are announcing a contest, open to members only, to update our current logo or design a new one. Members will review submissions and select the one they feel best portrays KYOWVA's commitment of service to the three states we represent. Contact KYOWVA for more information.
